01 | technology

manadental photodynamic cleaning is based on antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT), a technology used to eliminate plaque and bacteria. Bacteria are stained with a dye (photosensitizer) and then activated by light of an appropriate wavelength, leading to their elimination. In addition, manadental achieves positive effects of photobiomodulation (cf. LLLT/red light therapy) through the light source used, which can have cell-regenerating effects and improve tissue circulation. Further information on these technologies and the existing body of research can be found below. Furthermore, the "research" section lists analyses carried out with the manadental product, building on the existing body of studies.

02 | research

The photodynamic care system from manadental is characterised by its ease of use – making it suitable for home use as an oral hygiene product – as well as by precisely tailored light exposure parameters and well-tolerated photosensitisers and other ingredients. The key aspects of the procedure are, on the one hand, the targeted effect of the photodynamic cleaning, which is restricted to the ‘stained’ bacteria, and, on the other hand, the fact that both the photosensitiser and the light penetrate areas that are otherwise inaccessible to home dental hygiene.

The "manadental" product, which was developed for the application of photodynamic care, is designed as an innovative instrument for daily oral hygiene and is intended to comprehensively protect and maintain oral health.

To analyse the efficacy of the ‘manadental’ photodynamic care product, a series of laboratory tests (in vitro) and studies (in vivo) involving test subjects were carried out. The institutions involved in the research were the Institute of Hygiene and Microbiology at the Medical University of Graz and the DakkS-accredited research institute Dermatest GmbH, based in Germany.

99.9% more effective than conventional mouthwashes.

In-vitro test series on the antibacterial efficacy of a photodynamic system with riboflavin (vitamin B2) and a polychromatic LED light source against the pathogenic oral bacterium Streptococcus mutans.
Dermatest GmbH

49.4% improved gum health in 4 weeks.

A clinical dental study on the efficacy of a
photodynamic care system on gum health measured by bleeding on probing (BoP) and plaque index (PI) over a 4-week observation period.
Andreas Inthal, DMD

84.0% experienced improved oral cleanliness.

In vivo study investigating the efficacy of a photodynamic system using riboflavin (vitamin B2) and a polychromatic LED light source on gum health, as measured by bleeding on probing (BoP).
